Insurance law is our core business.
We advise businesses before, during and after major losses and represent policyholders in insurance coverage disputes. Our work includes property damage and business interruption, construction and CAR insurance, liability and professional indemnity insurance, complex coverage issues and high-value insurance claims.
A complex insurance claim rarely concerns the wording of the policy alone. A major loss can affect a company’s operations, finances and the decisions that need to be made along the way.
We help our clients understand where they stand, identify the issues that matter and determine the best way forward. We work closely with the client, its brokers and other advisers throughout the process – from the first assessment and negotiations with the insurer to litigation or arbitration where necessary.
We act exclusively for policyholders. We never act for insurers.
International clients
We advise international businesses whenever an insurance matter has a Danish dimension.
This may involve a loss occurring in Denmark, a Danish insurance policy, a local policy forming part of an international insurance programme or a dispute requiring specialist advice on Danish insurance law.
Our role can range from focused advice on a particular question of Danish law to handling a complex insurance claim or dispute in Denmark.
We are accustomed to advising international clients and advisers who may not be familiar with the Danish legal and insurance market.
Brokers and law firms
We regularly work alongside insurance brokers and international law firms.
For brokers, we provide specialist legal expertise when complex coverage questions arise, following major losses or where there are early indications that a claim may develop into a dispute. Our role is to add legal expertise to the broker’s existing knowledge of the client, its risks and its insurance programme.
For international law firms, we can provide focused Danish insurance law advice or take responsibility for the Danish aspects of a wider cross-border matter.
We understand the importance of existing client relationships and are accustomed to working as part of a wider advisory team.
Global Policyholder Alliance
Werenberg Advokater is the Danish member of the Global Policyholder Alliance (GPA), an international alliance of leading independent law firms representing policyholders in major insurance disputes. Through close collaboration between member firms, the alliance provides businesses with access to leading local expertise and coordinated cross-border advice across 23 jurisdictions.
Insurance disputes are increasingly international in nature. A major dispute may involve an international insurance programme, local policies, several insurers and multiple jurisdictions. Through the Global Policyholder Alliance, businesses can access specialist policyholder lawyers in the relevant local jurisdiction, combined with coordinated cross-border support when a dispute extends across borders.
For our Danish clients, the alliance provides access to specialist policyholder lawyers in other jurisdictions when needed. For international businesses, brokers and law firms, Werenberg provides the local expertise in Danish insurance law when a matter involves Denmark.
